An Easy Quarantine Recipe: Haluski Noodles

Hi friends!

Hope all is well and I am sure all of you are wanting the normalcy of life back, but fingers crossed we can get it sooner than later! I have been experimenting in the kitchen WAY too much. I am so sure I have gained a pound or two, but it is worth it finding these incredible recipes to make and bake.

This recipe I am sharing today is my husband's absolute favorite. He has been telling me to make this for months and I finally decided to do research and execute it. I am so glad I did because WOW, it is incredible. This meal is called Haluski. It is a Polish dish with egg noodles, cabbage, and a handful of butter! At first, I was very hesitant to mix noodles with cabbage, but I am so glad I opened myself up to trying it.

It literally calls for 5 ingredients (not including salt and pepper [I hope you already have those]) that you should absolutely be able to find at a grocery store right now and is very affordable. The traditional meal calls for dumplings, but right now, it is hard to find certain ingredients. I have seen people saying that not making the true traditional dish makes your Polish grandmother roll in her grave. No, she doesn't care, but she is proud of you for making a Polish inspired dish. Don't be so sensitive. It's a dinner recipe.

This is my very first recipe that I am fully writing out and I will get into great detail. You can also double recipe if you are cooking for more than 4 people. I usually cook for 2 people, but we always go for seconds with this recipe. If you make it, please feel free to comment below and share your experience or ways you could enhance the recipe!

Haluski Noodles with Bacon
This recipe feeds 4 servings

6 Ounces of wide egg noodles
1/3 Cup of unsalted butter (divide it into 3 parts)
1 Medium white onion (diced)
1/2 Head of cabbage (cored and cut into bite sized pieces)
5-6 Strips of bacon (cut into bite sized slices)
1 Teaspoon of ground pepper
Salt to taste

1. In a large saucepan, melt one part of the butter on medium heat. Cook the sliced bacon into the pan. Stir and cook until brown and crispy, about 5 minutes.

2. While the bacon is cooking, boil the noodles using the directions on the package.

3. Add the diced onions to the crispy bacon and saute until translucent, about 2 minutes.

4. Add the cabbage, ground pepper, and one part of the butter to the bacon and onion mixture, stir until cabbage is softened (not browned), about 5 minutes.

5. Drain and add cooked noodles with the last part of butter into the cabbage, onion and bacon mixture and combine well. Add salt and pepper to taste

6. Serve while hot

Again, feel free to share thoughts and enhances to the recipe! Enjoy!
