Closet Clean-Up September '17
Hi everyone!
I have been so so busy! With balancing work, school and raising a puppy during the week, weekends are a gift from above!
Today I was finally able to do some cleaning around the apartment which was definitely well needed. My closet was completely thrashed. During the week, I wasn't even bothering with putting my clothes back on hangers or folding them away. Everything was either ending up in a chair, in a basket or on the floor. Usually I can clean up after myself, but I have been so drained lately.
Organization is key when it comes to my closet. In my drawers I have baskets that separate one type of clothing from another. I have different hangers for different designers. The velvet hangers are for high designers and the plastic hangers are for things that aren't too special to put on a velvet hanger or throw in a drawer.
My velvet hangers are either black or pink. Pink is all of my Free People. I have a ton of it so I just gave it it's own color. Everything is organized by style and color. I have dresses together and We the Free after gold tag or white tag Free People. The black hangers are for other designers up that I don't have much of. This includes All Saints, Ted Baker, Vince, Joie, Supreme, Anthropologie brands, etc...
Yes. I do have a huge Free People sign. It was basically my gift for being Employee of the Month of September! I put as a caption on a Snapchat photo that my closet was "basically one small exclusive Free People store".
After having a completely messed up closet, it made me realize that I have a lot of clothes that I do not even wear. I have been listening to the Rob, Anybody and Dawn show every morning and Amanda and Dawn have a blog called "Go Girls!' and Amanda did a closet purge and it looked amazing after! A fan had emailed the RAD show and recommended to turn all the hangers the other way and after a year, purge the clothes which hangers had been left the other way. This is something that I might have to do considering we have a small walk-in closet and I am losing space on my side.
Usually when I get rid of my clothes, I bring them to buy-trade stores because you can choose between cash back or store credit or I just give them to Goodwill. I usually pick store credit because you are trading your clothes for more with nothing out of pocket and you usually get more credit than cash. Consignment shops are also a great option if the brands are higher than others! Poshmark is also great because you make your own price and you talk to your buyers.
Another great option is to give them to charities. Hurricane Harvey just passed and left a huge part of Texas with nothing. Hurricane Irma just hit Florida and we have no idea what the outcome will be. There are charities out there that are willing to take clothes to help those who have lost everything.
Thank you everyone for reading this lengthy update! If you have any good closet cleaning ideas, please feel free to comment below!!
